FAQ on Beolink Surround
Introduction
Beolink Surround is a collection of Bang & Olufsen technologies that seamlessly integrate our televisions, soundbars and loudspeakers into a surround sound experience.
In a Beolink Surround setup, you have a supported Beovision TV or soundbar that works as the processor, allowing other loudspeakers to be connected and flexibly assigned to different speaker roles (such as front, side, rear or height speakers) for immersive surround sound that fits the way you live.
The TV or soundbar handles sound synchronization in the surround setup, the communication with the Bang & Olufsen App and/or the Beoremote One or Beoremote Halo as well as home network infrastructure.
The connection between the TV/soundbar and the surround speakers can be either wired or wireless.
Surround sound options have already been available for users with Beovision and Beolab products that support Power Link or Wireless Power Link technology. Now we’re bringing surround sound connectivity to all our speakers on the Mozart Platform™, with the introduction of Digital Power Link.
Digital Power Link (DPL) is the technology that allows any Mozart Platform™-based speaker to be added into a Beolink Surround setup with a Mozart Platform™-based TV or soundbar as the primary loudspeaker.
DPL is a network-based audio streaming protocol that has been developed by Bang & Olufsen. When using DPL, the TV or soundbar and the connected speakers all work together to create an immersive, high quality surround sound experience. It can operate both wireless and wired, delivering an end-to-end digital audio signal. Up to four speakers can be connected to the TV or soundbar using DPL.
Digital Power Link is supported by products based on the Mozart Platform™. These are:
- Beovision / Beosound Theatre
- Beolab 28
- Beolab 8
- Beosound A9 5th gen
- Beosound 2 3rd gen
- Beosound Balance
- Beosound Level
- Beosound A5
- Beosound Emerge
All Mozart Platform™-based televisions, soundbars and speakers with Digital Power Link connectivity (listed above)
Other Beovision televisions with Power Link and/or Wireless Power Link connectivity
Beolab speakers with Power Link and/or Wireless Power Link connectivity
The Mozart Platform™ is a Bang & Olufsen hardware and software platform for connected speakers, created to ensure our product longevity goes beyond physical design and craftmanship. A seamless experience, encompassing the luxury touch of Bang & Olufsen, designed to be updated, improved and built on for years to come.
How to get started
Support for Beolink Surround will come to all Mozart Platform™-based products as an automatic software update. If you do not have automatic software updates enabled, you can update your products via the Bang & Olufsen App.
Using the Bang & Olufsen App.
Beolink Multiroom is the synchronized audio distribution in different rooms based on Bang & Olufsen proprietary protocols:
- Master Control Link
- Master Link
- Network Link
Beolink Surround is the surround experience based on Bang & Olufsen proprietary technologies within one room with Beosound/Beovision Theatre as primary speaker. The satellite speakers can be connected via:
- Powerlink (Wireless or Wired)
- Digital Power Link (Wireless or Wired)
Even though it is technically possible, we do not recommend a such setup for the following reason:
– When using in symmetrical systems, audio products deliver the best experience when they are used as pairs. Every speaker has a characteristic acoustic performance and the non-uniform combination of those will affect the surround sound experience.
For this reason, the recommended set-up will always be to use matching speakers as front, side, or rear.
Yes, you can. By utilising different output options, you can connect a total of 20 speakers:
- Up to 8 Bang & Olufsen loudspeakers via Power Link
- Up to 8 Bang & Olufsen loudspeakers via Wireless Power Link
- Up to 4 Mozart Platform™-based speakers connected via Digital Power Link (wireless or wired)
No, you cannot. Once a product is part of a designated Beolink Surround set-up, it will be tied to this experience until otherwise defined in the app. If any button is pressed on e.g. Beosound Level it will be forwarded to the Beosound Theatre, both volume adjustments, favourite buttons, play/pause and next/previous track.
No, you cannot. Using these speakers as part of a surround setup requires that both the television and the loudspeaker support Digital Power Link, which is available only on the Mozart Platform™.
Beolink Surround allows you to mix Beolab speakers with network connected Beosound speakers giving you more possibilities in terms of design and placement to enjoy a full-fledge surround experience at home.
